About Me
Hello, I’m Catherine, the creator behind Dathanna Designs. I’ve always been a crafter at heart — creativity has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up, my parents always had a project on the go, and I learned so much from watching and helping them. That love of making has stayed with me, and today it flows into every piece I create.
The spark for macramé came after the birth of my second child, during the pandemic. My husband gifted me an online workshop, and as I tied each knot of my first plant hanger, something clicked. The rhythmic, repetitive process felt deeply calming — a meditation in itself — and at the end, I had something beautiful and functional for my home.
Now, in my home studio on the coast of Co. Meath, I spend my days creating colourful, thoughtful pieces for others to enjoy. I’m especially inspired by colour — the way it can bring joy to a child’s bedroom, warmth to a home, or meaning to a personalised gift. I love working with nature, often incorporating driftwood from local beaches into my boho wall hangings, and I find such joy in displaying beautiful indoor plants in my macramé plant hangers.
The Brand
Sustainability is important to me, and that’s why I always use recycled cotton cord in my work.
The name Dathanna comes from the Irish word for “colours,” which reflects both my love of colour and my Irish roots. Every product I create also carries an Irish name, adding another layer of meaning and connection to the culture that inspires me.
For me, Dathanna Designs isn’t just about macramé — it’s about colour, creativity, and connection. Each piece carries a story, and I feel so privileged to play a small part in the special moments of the people who receive them.
